This film by John Ford defeats any misguided assumptions of westerns. . Each character poses the stereotypical characteristics that slowly change as the story progresses. Doc Boone was a doctor with a drinking problem, Dallas was a prostitute, Lucy who was pregnant and on her way to see her husband who was in the military, Hatfield the Gambler, Gatewood a banker , Ringo Kid an escaped fugitive, and the voice of reason a whiskey salesman named Peacock. These people were kicked out of town and being shipped away together in a stagecoach.
This article proves how good a movie Stagecoach was as it gets remade onto blu-ray dvd. It also talks about how when released it ended a 13yr drought in the industry. The escape from the Indians is credited for the huge box office success.
The article relates to the film because it gives the film a modern day, lets say reminder, of why it was so successful and lays the ground rules for action scenes in westerns.
In my opinion this was a good picture. I had trouble understanding the film in the beginning but once the pieces got put together I thought it was good. The actors and actresses all play their roles well and everyone seemed to fit their characters. I would recommend his film to people to watch especially and early film maker. However I am still shocked on he outcome of the friendships when they reach their destination. I agree that this film put John Ford and John Wayne on the map.
